Residents demand action: Petition to restore Transdev Number 7 Bus Service

17 January 2025

On Tuesday, 21st January, Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, or her office, will receive a petition signed by over 1,600 residents calling for the restoration of the Transdev number 7 bus to a half-hourly service.

This vital service is the only public transport link connecting Boston Spa, Bramham, Thorner, Clifford, Thorp Arch, and Walton to Leeds and Harrogate, and it is relied upon daily by residents for work, school, and appointments.

The petition is the result of a collective effort by local residents, led by Christine Petch and Matt Fisher, and reflects how strongly the community feels about reinstating the half-hourly service.

“Public transport isn’t a luxury; it’s essential. The current unreliable service disrupts our daily lives,” said Penny Stables, Leeds City Council Green Group Leader and Wetherby Ward Councillor.

Residents interested in supporting this cause are invited to attend the event on:
Tuesday, 21st January, at 11am outside the West Yorkshire Combined Authority offices on Wellington Street.

Restoring the Transdev number 7 bus service to a half-hourly schedule will provide much-needed relief for residents and ensure that outer northeast Leeds is not left behind in public transport improvements.

This is about ensuring fairness and accessibility for all communities, no matter where they live,” added Penny.

The current hourly service, plagued by “ghost buses” that fail to arrive, leaves passengers stranded and disrupts daily routines. Beyond inconvenience, this situation contributes to:

  • Air Pollution: More residents are forced to drive, increasing emissions.
  • Road Congestion and Safety Risks: Higher traffic volumes create dangerous conditions.
  • Carbon Emissions: The lack of reliable public transport is counterproductive to tackling the climate crisis.
