About Omar
Omar has lived, worked, and volunteered in Beeston his entire life. He attended local schools including St Luke’s Primary, and Bradford College. Omar has dedicated over 15 years to volunteering in the community, engaging in activities such as running innovative youth programs, mentoring and coaching, and providing employment and education support.
He has served as a trustee and director at the Hamara Centre, contributed to the rebuild of one of the local community mosques, worked with the homeless, participated in community fundraising, and offered advice and advocacy for a broad spectrum of local residents.
Up to now, Omar has co-run two local businesses and is now ready for a new challenge. He resides in the local community with his young family. Omar enjoys cricket, boxing, and litter picking—juggling community life, family, and work with skill.
Once elected, he plans to work very closely with his colleague Ed Carlisle to make Hunslet & Riverside the best place to live and work in Leeds.
2024 Local Ward Campaign
Omar’s campaign for Hunslet & Riverside is driven by a commitment to sustainable development and community-centric governance.
His key initiatives include enhancing public amenities, supporting local businesses, improving housing standards, and promoting extensive community participation.
Partnering with fellow Green Party councillor Ed Carlisle, Omar aims to synergise efforts to elevate the quality of life in the ward.
Campaign Priorities
- Environmental Initiatives: Omar plans to expand green spaces and implement environmental education to promote community sustainability practices.
- Youth Programs: He will focus on creating inclusive sports and educational programs that cater to the diverse needs of young people.
- Health and Wellness: Omar advocates for improved local healthcare facilities and wellness programs that address comprehensive health needs, both physical and mental.
