Response to the cancellation of the Clean Air Zone plans

15 November 2018

Let's make every day a clean air day

Today brought some positive global environmental news, and by contrast it also brought the latest in a long line of Leeds City Council environmental policy shambles.

The Ozone layer is now replenishing itself after 3 decades of international action to phase out the use of Ozone destroying chemicals.

This news proves that massive global environmental problems can be fixed when the world takes notice of what scientific research tells us and act accordingly.

Unfortunately on the same day it's emerged that the government has rejected Leeds City Council's bid for funding for a 'Clean Air Zone', leaving the Council's already inadequate plans to marginally improve the city's air pollution levels in tatters.

Central & Outer Leeds Green Party would be happy to assist the Council to develop a plan B involving a comprehensive set of policies that would deliver truly clean air for the whole of Leeds rather than the marginal improvement the now rejected plans would have delivered for parts of the city.

Central & Outer Leeds Green Party is the group within the Green Party of England & Wales with responsibility for the parliamentary constituencies of Leeds Central, Leeds East, Leeds North East, Pudsey and Morley & Outwood, and the 20 council wards that make up those constituencies.
