Response to People’s Assembly on Climate Change Report

12 September 2020

Central and Outer Leeds Green Party (CAOLGP) welcomes Thursday’s report from the People’s Assembly on Climate Change.

The use of an assembly to gather a really considered public opinion - which in turn reflects many of the Green Party’s existing policies - illustrates just how much in touch the Green Party is with what most people want.

We call upon Leeds City Council to publicly support the recommendations of the People’s Assembly and, where it has direct responsibility, immediately stop its planned increases in carbon emissions through the building of new roads,  oppose the increase in flying from Leeds/Bradford Airport and bring forward more sustainable and accessible travel as a matter of priority.

“We’re going through a really difficult time now with the Covid Pandemic” commented Rachel Hartshorne, joint coordinator of the CAOLGP, “but it will be just a footnote in history compared to the threat of climate change. We all need to wake up.”
