Central and Outer Leeds Green Party (CAOLGP) is appalled by the Government’s refusal to finance free school meals for poor pupils during the imminent half term holiday. This lack of commitment to supporting our young people, especially those from the most disadvantaged backgrounds, is further highlighted by an 80% cut in the number of laptops and tablets being made available to schools to loan to the poorest pupils so that they can access on-line learning from home.
“Given that the Government is wasting £12billion on the failing test and trace system by giving it to its friends in private companies with a long history of ineptitude, it’s baffling that it won’t spend a small fraction of that in supplying school meals for the most vulnerable.” commented Rachel Hartshorne, joint coordinator of CAOLGP. “We’ve three Conservative MPs in Leeds. I hope that they’ve changed their minds after voting against the free school meals in the holiday, and will be putting pressure on the Government to change its mind. It saddens me to think that some of my son’s school friends will go hungry this week because of our selfish MPs.
